12/11: Dawn of the Dead

Whew! It took nearly two months, but we’re here! The new build, containing both Relic Wraiths and Interactables, has been released! Links on the right have already been updated!

The rather extensive change log included with each build details the changes beyond what I’ve talked about here over the course of the past several weeks, so dig into that if you’re curious about the specifics.

Well, at least the second ghost isn’t so bad…

Less of a baddie, though the random Combusts might turn out to be dangerous for parties with no healing available. Stopping to fix some minor bugs, but we’re still on schedule (I didn’t assume in planning that I’d find zero bugs, after all. :D ) I tried to summon Tremane’s ghost to fight, but Level 3 is too high to summon a Level 2 ghost, alas! (The range for level-based ghost summoning is QUITE small at low levels, and by that I mean it pretty much has to match exactly. :P )

I Accidentally Made A Sigmund

Welp. At least since he’s a Relic Wraith, the odds of actually running into him will drop sharply once other people start making wraiths. :D

Meet the first ghost of… ahem… Tower… 1. The RNG apparently wanted the first ghost to be a bit of a doozy: the Hypnotic Gaze and Venomous were both found on corpses (and both extremely lucky rolls, most of the time, you get far less exciting things from the find ability result :P )

If anyone is still playing this game next week, it will probably be a miracle. :D

Relic Wraith Build Is In Testing

Alrighty, we’re nearly there. :D

Going to start the last round of testing when I get back from lunch. If all goes well with that today and tomorrow, we’re on schedule for a 12/11 release.

In a slight departure from normal testing methods, I will be endeavoring to create some initial ghosts to start things off for everyone so that early results of summoning Relic Wraiths don’t come up empty. :) Plan is to start games, then end them on consecutive floors so that as many floors as possible have at least 1 ghost each. :D (This will also give me some ‘real’ ghosts to test with in the later phases of the testing round.)

Ghost Stats

As a very quick aside, it will be possible to check how your ghosts are doing to a limited degree by pressing Shift + Backslash:

The data available will possibly be expanded in future builds, but I want to the core mechanic pinned down and ironed out before spending too much time on the frills. :) Still, I figured I should at least provide spawn count and kill count info, so here it is. :D Note that these stats only reflect server ghost activity: spawns and kills by your local ghosts are not reflected here.

Target Set: 12/11 should be the day!

Barring any unfortunate surprises, I intend to release the next build no later than 12/11. :)

Apologies that this one has run a bit long: as I remarked to a friend earlier this week, I hope someone stops me if I decide implementing two new major systems in one shot is a good idea again. :P But, it will be worth it, as both Relic Wraiths and Interactables will be arriving in what I hope are very strong starting states, fully integrated into the game as if they had been there from the first build. On top of those, there will be a good number of small bug fixes and balance tweaks as well.

Aside from any bug fix builds that may happen, the next major release will be content heavy. :) Once Relic Wraiths is safely out the door, I’ll have more to say about it, but in short: it’s about time the Tower did some growing again. :) Cheers!

The Relic Wraiths Are Coming…

With lots of help from Keylan (thank you!), the online components of Relic Wraiths are now fully functional and implemented. :D Each of the 3 ways of spawning Relic Wraiths will now (at random) spawn local or server-stored Wraiths.

This includes searching corpses (3% chance)…

… using the Enemy Lure upgrade (25% chance)…

…and using a Ghost Chime (100% chance, so long as an appropriate level Relic Wraith exists that is!)..

Additionally, you can also use a Mirror Chime to create a Relic Wraith of your current character and party to fight, should you think you have a good reason to do so…

Whew. Getting all this working has been a bit more involved than I originally anticipated, but it’s all downhill from here. :) I want this build out there pretty badly myself at this point, but there’s still a few more things to take care of. :) Stay tuned!

Score Submission Temporarily Busted

We’re in the process of updating the backend for the upcoming Relic Wraith build. :D This has taken down score submission for the time being, with apologies.

Edit: Scoreboard viewing is also down intermittingly. :P

High Score Is High

ayayaya is no stranger to the top spots on Demon’s scoreboard, but this one is pretty impressive even  relative to his usual norm. Congrats ayayaya! :D

For my part, I’m still plugging away on the next build. :) Nothing much new to report on that front, other than it’s coming along. Two new systems in one build is bigger than I usually go, but it will be worth the wait I think. :D Cheers!

We’re Almost There, New Scoring Model Coming

Relatively speaking, we’re starting to get close on the Relic Wraiths + Interactables build. :) Still some smaller things to do, as well as an extra-large chunk of testing, but most of the bigger tasks are completed.

One other note: The new version will of course be on a different scoring model. :) If you have any large games you’re close to wrapping up and want folks to be able to see for a bit, it’s getting about time for that. :D
